RARE LARGE BRISE’ OF PROBABLE ENGLISH MANUFACTURE. PIERCED IVORY STICKS WITH THREE HAND PAINTED MEDALLIONS AFTER ANGELICA KAUFFMANN ( 1741/1807 ) . IN THE CENTER ARE REPRESENTED PARIDE AND OENONE IN A COPY OF THE KAUFFMANN'S PAINTING, WHILE ON THE SIDES ARE THE PORTRAITS OF TWO WOMEN , ONE YOUNGER AND THE OTHER OLDER, BOTH IN THE STYLE AROUND 1780. THE GUARD STICKS ARE LINED WITH PALE BLUE SILK AND DECORATED WITH THE APPLICATION OF TWO RECTANGULAR WEDGWOOD CERAMIC PLATES , GOLD FRAMED IN A LOW CARAT , WITH EFFIGIES OF TWO FEMALE FIGURES IN CLASSIC STYLE . CRYSTALS EMBEDDED IN RIVET . ANGELICA KAUFFMANN WAS AN IMPORTANT PAINTER , BORN IN SWITZERLAND AND MAINLY FORMED IN ITALY AND IN ENGLAND .
